Bonaire Lunch: Where the Island's Best Midday Meals Are Served
5 spots · updated May 27, 2026
Bonaire is a small island with a strong food culture, and lunch — not dinner — is the centrepiece. Working people, dive professionals, fishermen and shopkeepers all sit down for a proper midday meal: rice with red beans, a piece of fresh fish or stewed meat, a fried plantain on the side. The portions are honest and the prices reflect who the customers actually are.

More about this guide
Kralendijk is small enough that you can walk between most of the good lunch spots in ten minutes. The area around the central market and the streets running parallel to the boulevard are where the local counters cluster. Fish caught in the morning often appears on the lunch menu by noon — the supply chain here is short. Rice and beans (locally called funchi con stoba or arroz cu carni depending on the cook's background) is the foundation. The truki pan routes also sell hot snacks through the morning and into lunch. For a more leisurely lunch, a few spots along the waterfront have tables where you can watch the ferry and the occasional sailing boat while you eat.
