Where to Eat on Bonaire: Fresh Fish, Food Trucks and Beach Bars
Publiká 5 oktober 2026
Ask most people what Bonaire is known for and you will hear diving, flamingos and wind. Ask the people who live here where to eat and you get a different, longer answer. Bonaire's food is a quiet scene: fish that came in this morning, a food truck on a boulevard, a beach bar at the end of a sandy road, a take-away that does one thing well.
This guide is built from the places on the Snekkie map of Bonaire: real spots, with the addresses and reviews we have for them. It is not a ranking and it is not complete. There are around 145 spots on the map so far, and we say where our information is thin.
A short note on Bonairean food
Bonaire is a small island with a long kitchen history. Papiamentu is spoken here, Dutch is an official language, and the food sits between Caribbean, Dutch and Latin American influences. The dishes people name as Bonairean are not complicated: goat stew (kabritu stobá), fish in whatever way the day's catch allows, funchi (a cornmeal side) and sòpi di kadushi, a soup made from the kadushi cactus.
If you have read our guides to Curaçao, many names will sound familiar. The islands share a language and a pantry, each with its own accents.
Fresh fish, close to the source
Kralendijk sits on the sheltered west coast, and the fish scene follows from that. Three places on our map put fish first:
- Daily Catch Fisherman's Market Bonaire on Kaya L. D. Gerharts has more than a hundred reviews and a rating of 4.8 on our map.
- Chacho's Local Fresh Fish Specialist on Kaya Papa Cornes: the name says what it does.
- It Rains Fishes on Kaya J. N. E. Craane is listed as a seafood spot.
Fish depends on the catch. Ask what came in today rather than what is on the menu.
Food trucks: truki pan, Bonaire style
On Curaçao a truki pan is a food truck, and we wrote about the idea in our Truki Pan guide. Bonaire has its own. On our map you will find:
- Del Chef on the Julio A. Abraham Boulevard, rated 5.0 from more than a hundred reviews.
- Kite City Food Truck, rated 4.8 from around 250 reviews.
- The Fat Dog, a Mexican food truck on Kaya Industria.
- Food Truck Sonrisa on Kaya Finlandia, on the same street as Restaurant Sonrisa.
- Cactus Blue Foodtruck on the EEG Boulevard.
Local plates and take-aways
For a sit-down meal or something to take with you, the map lists King of Kings, a grill and creole take-away on Kaya J.E. Nicolaas, Jardin de Amor on Kaya Caracas and Biña Restaurant & Bar on Kaya Gobernador N. Debrot, both rated 4.8 or higher from more than 150 reviews. Pizza Mare has the most reviews of any restaurant in this guide.
The kitchen here is also international. Names such as Plazita Limeña and Las Caleñas point to Lima and Cali, and there is sushi, pizza and Mexican food next to the grills. Bonaire eats more than goat stew.
Breakfast and coffee
Looking for breakfast? Start with Carmen / Breakfast place on Kaya Zjar, Toast To Go, Rosa Cafe in Les Galeries or The Sandwich Bar on Kaya Gobernador N. Debrot. Breakfast is where our map is thinnest. We do not have opening hours for most of these yet, so check before you go.
Beach bars at Sorobon and Lac Bay
On the east coast, Lac Bay is a shallow lagoon known for windsurfing and kitesurfing, and Sorobon is where the beach bars are. Sorobon Beach, Hang Out Beachbar and Restaurant Wanapa are all on or near Kaminda Sorobon. On the same coast, Lac Cai Beach is another option.
Closer to Kralendijk, King Kong Bonaire at Bachelor's Beach is rated 4.8 from over 200 reviews, and Te Amo Beach sits just south of town.
Up north in Rincon
Rincon is the island's oldest village, in the north. Our map has only a few places there so far: Doro Grill, On the block and Cactus Fence Supreme. If you eat somewhere in Rincon that deserves to be here, tell us.
Using the Snekkie map on Bonaire
Open the Bonaire map and filter on Truki Pan or Seafood to see what is near you. Many Bonaire spots do not have opening hours on the map yet. We say so instead of guessing, so check with the place before you drive out. Most ratings are from Google; yours count too.
Know a place we are missing? Add it to the map. It takes a minute, and it is how the Bonaire guide gets better. Bon bini na Boneiru.
